All in the Mustard Tree: Groovin’ with the Ten Commandments, The Psalms Unplugged, and Lighting up the Beatitudes brings essential biblical texts to life through entertaining and inspiring puppetry and music. Each commandment and beatitude is repeated in a variety of creative ways in order to ensure that the viewer remembers and understands it. The delightful and diverse musical renditions of biblical texts will keep your toes tapping, and the imaginative cast of puppets and clever script will leave a smile on the faces of both children and adults. Most importantly, All in the Mustard Tree consistently makes biblical texts tangible and relevant to the daily lives of children. Biblical scholarship is sprinkled throughout in kid-friendly amounts, from insights on the cultural context of Psalm 23 and the meanings of Greek words in the Beatitudes to Miss Olivia Ostrich’s observation that the psalmists sang when they were up and when they were down. Jonathan Kidder brilliantly combines puppetry, music, art, and drama in order to teach the Bible to children in ways that are both inspiring and fun. This wing-flapping, beak-squawking, and thought-soaring show succeeds in making the Bible alive for children.
