Swap
Shop is a place to exchange ideas for activities
in Sunday school; share your success stories in
teaching the Bible to children; and provide ways
to foster a love for the Bible.
Swap Shop – For the next few months, we are including ideas for starting vacation Bible camps. It’s not too late to get started even for this summer. Sue Farrell and John Rudder from North Carolina share their thoughts as they prepare for summer 2007. If you have Bible camp ideas to share or exercises that might be used this summer, please send your ideas to teach@biblewise.com.
It’s never too late to share the Word of God!
- Our mission remains the same as last year: To nurture the goodness already within each child, and to have each one discover this for himself.
- Our theme is "Five Smooth Stones: Heroes and Heroines in the Old Testament."
- In a Monitor/Journal article, entitled "Five Smooth Stones" dated October 20, 2006, are listed five defense facts:
- God made me.
- God loves me.
- God maintains me.
- God showers me with blessings.
- These are permanent facts--true now and always.
We are going to use these as our themes for each day of camp and match them with Bible characters to bring them out in their lives.
Day 1, fact 1: David
Day 2, fact 2: Esther or Ruth
Day 3, fact 3: Daniel
Day 4, fact 4: Joseph
Day 5, fact 5: Moses/The Ten Commandments
The first day, we will print our t-shirts with shields and stones, make pouches for our five smooth stones which the students will collect (one each day), and make musical instruments to use with our songs.
- At our next meeting, we will be gathering activity ideas from these Bible stories so that we can ask for and purchase supplies. Homework assignment for staff is to read about each character thoroughly so we are all up to speed on facts about them.
That's the scoop for now. It is so exciting to work on something like this. It gets everyone thinking and moving and creating and having such a great time!
